Success in the Creative Classroom
Using enjoyment to promote excellence

by
Steve Bowkett, Trisha Lee, Tim Harding, Roy Leighton

“…provides a depth that's then consistently developed into ideas that can be readily applied to current teaching. Sections on peers teaching each other, narrative learning and questioning all have the potential to inspire.”
Huw Thomas, Times Educational Supplement

This innovative, engaging and practical book uses a variety of forms of creative expression, and shows how these can be used for teaching children today. Each chapter opens with a story written in or featuring a different genre, which is then underpinned by research and theory and expanded into resources for activities supported by case studies.

Steve Bowkett taught English for 18 years in Leicestershire high schools and is now a full-time writer, storyteller and educational consultant. To date he has 39 publications including short stories and poems for children and adults.

Trisha Lee is founder and artistic director of Make Believe Arts Theatre Company, working within Lewisham LEA in London. Her activities include directing, writing and stage managing theatre in education productions that tour London schools, and also providing school INSET.

Tim Harding taught in primary schools for 23 years, 15 of these as a headteacher. He has frequently used music as a dynamic starting point for cross-curricular learning and has written and produced a wide variety of music for primary school children.

Roy Leighton is an educator, creative thinker and broadcaster, best known for his role in the BBC TV programme Confidence Lab. He has a reputation for linking creativity, commerce and learning to assist individuals and organizations in transforming their level of achievement in many areas.
