Stories have a universal appeal, and the metaphor of
'the story' is itself a profound and natural way of
organising the themes, principles, motifs and characters
the very experiences that make up our
lives. Alps StoryMaker utilises childrenıs enjoyment
of fiction and exploits the powerful dynamic of narrative
structures to allow students to understand and practise
the techniques of accelerated brain-based learning.
Alps StoryMaker is much more than a
book about literacy. The educational platform on which
it is based has evolved from Steve Bowkett's previous
books 'Imagine That' and 'Self-Intelligence',
and is informed by Alistair Smith's Accelerated Learning
cycle. As such, the 100 or so activities in Alps StoryMaker
draw on the latest research into brain-based learning
and offer a practical resource that teachers can use
immediately, across a wide age and ability range.
The book offers: insights into the nature
of creativity and how to be systematic in developing
a creative attitude to generate useful ideas across
a broad field. Techniques for processing information
from any subject more effectively.

About the book
Stories are an important part of everyone's
life. We all enjoy a good tale. But more importantly,
narrative structures embody a powerful organising principle
that allows us to make sense of the world we
don't talk of a person's 'life story' for nothing. Our
own experiences and the strategies we use to learn from
them are our most precious resource. ALPS StoryMaker,
through the medium of creative fiction, offers a wide
range of techniques and activities utilising children's
enjoyment of fiction, and exploits the powerful dynamic
of narrative structures to enable both students and
teachers to practise the techniques of accelerated brain-based
learning, and so fulfil their potential.
